  • 1 Capital One® Quicksilver® $150 Vs. $200 Bonus
    • 1.1 Earning The $150 Bonus
    • 1.2 What’s The Competition?

Capital One® Quicksilver® Rewards Credit Card is now offered in two bonus varieties, a $150 bonus and a $200 bonus. The two options will have different bonus requirements as well as different introductory APR benefits.

The low spending requirement and the bonus offer, along with the ongoing 1.5% cash back rate, puts this on our best credit card bonuses list.

I’ll review the bonus offers below.

Capital One® Quicksilver® $150 Vs. $200 Bonus

Great bonus options for this card…

ADVERTISEMENT blockadds

Many other No Annual Fee credit cards only offer a $100 bonus, so this updated $150/$200 offer will compete well.

The first difference between the two offers is in the spending requirements to obtain the bonus:

  • $150 bonus: Earn a one-time $150 cash bonus once you spend $500 on purchases within 3 months from account opening.
  • $200 bonus: Earn a one-time $200 cash bonus once you spend $1,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening.

Secondly, the introductory APR offers will be different between the two:

ADVERTISEMENT linkadds

  • With the $150 bonus option: 0% intro APR on Purchases for 15 months; variable APR after that. 0% intro APR on Balance Transfers for 15 months; variable APR after that; 3% fee on the amounts transferred within the first 15 months.
  • With the $200 bonus option: 0% intro APR on Purchases for 9 months; variable APR after that. 0% intro APR on Balance Transfers for 9 months; variable APR after that; 3% fee on the amounts transferred within the first 9 months.

Aside from the differences above, the card benefits will be the same.

What sets this card apart is the 1.5% cash back rate on every purchase with no limit on how much you can earn. There are no categories to keep track of like with the Chase Freedom® card. You also don’t have to wait until you reach a specific amount of rewards to redeem them. You can redeem when you earn $1 if you so wish.

Redeeming is easy via statement credits, mailed checks, or gift cards.

With the unlimited 1.5% cash back rate, the Capital One® Quicksilver® card is a great option for users who don’t spend much each month on credit cards, and for those who like the simplicity of no category spending to keep track of. For big credit card spenders that can offset an annual fee, there are other cards that earn a better rate. You may choose to use this card for everyday spending in conjunction with a category spending card to maximize returns.

Having no foreign transaction fees also makes this a good carry option for overseas travelers.

Earning The $150 Bonus

Spending $500 for the $150 bonus or $1000 for the $200 bonus in three months should be fairly straightforward for most users, as everyday spending on gas, groceries, dining, and shopping will usually do the trick. But, if you’re applying for more than one card bonus or you’d just like some ideas, we’ve got them for you.

MEETING CREDIT CARD BONUS SPENDING REQUIREMENTS

  • Use Plastiq to pay with your card. Plastiq is a service that will allow you to pay for expenses that you wouldn't otherwise be able to with your card, such as rent, tuition, auto lease, mortgage payment, and more. They charge a 2.5% processing fee for using your credit card, but this will likely be worth the card bonus you'll obtain. They also have a referral program where you can earn "Fee-Free Dollars" to use towards processing fees.
  • Fund Checking accounts with your card. Many banks will allow you to fund the opening deposit with a credit card. To make the most out of this opportunity, you should consider opening Checking accounts that also offer a sign-up bonus. That way, you're working your way towards bonuses from two different sources. Big banks like Chase and TD Bank have great offers and allow credit card funding. You can often fund anywhere from $500 to $1,000 towards the opening deposit with a credit card, depending on the bank.
  • Buy gift cards with your credit card. Consider buying gift cards that you can then spend later at your leisure. Individual merchant cards (e.g. restaurant, gas station, supermarket) typically don't have purchase fees so this route won't cost you. On the other hand, American Express and gift cards will incur purchase fees. are also wonderful if you shop there often (no purchase fees either). Get some gift card ideas here. *Be careful with Citi credit cards, as they tend to code gift card purchases as Cash Advances and you'll incur the fee. Call in to customer service and lower your Cash Advance limit to $0 before purchasing gift cards (it's a good idea to do this with any card in general). There are also options to buy discounted gift cards as well:
    • (auctions can save you even more with patience)
  • Other ideas. Be sure to always using your credit card for everyday spending, such as for dining, gas, groceries, etc. You can also use your credit card to pay for things like insurance bills, property taxes and income taxes, but you'll have to consider the convenience fees.

*More ways to meet the spending requirement

What’s The Competition?

Top competitor’s of the Quicksilver card with no annual fee include:

The Chase Freedom® Card

The Chase Freedom® credit card is going to earn you a $150 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. You can also earn another $25 bonus when you add your first authorized user and make your first purchase within this same 3 month period.

People like this card because it earns 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories that change every quarter. The downside is you have to keep up with the quarterly categories, and activate the category each quarter before you can earn the 5%. You'll earn 1% cash back on all other purchases. There's also a 0% intro APR for 15 months from account opening on both Purchases and Balance Transfers. After the intro period, a variable APR will take over. The Balance transfer fee is 5% of the amount transferred with a minimum of $5.

Many people have this as a supplemental card to use specifically on the 5% category spending, and use other other cards when it's more beneficial. The categories change each quarter, but historically they have included things like gas stations, grocery stores, and holiday shopping. There's no annual fee to be concerned with, so it fits well with such a strategy. Full Review
